RARE FLOWER CLOCK
A highly decorative and rare flower clock in glass dome on
ebonised base. The ormolu branches stand on an entwined based and
the braches support the leaves and porcelain flowers (probably Meissen).
The base also supports the central fluted marble pillar with an ormolu
plaque on the front and an ormolu eagle above. The highest branch of
the tree supports the timepiece set in an ormolu surround with opening
bezel and enamel dial with blue steel hands. The 30 hour verge
movement has engraved and pierced balance clock and back plate engraved
Jacob Massy, Leicesterfield, London. Flower clocks are recorded as
early as the 18th century but this is 19th century with an earlier (1725)
movement.
