ORMOLU CLOCK
A very beautiful early 19th century chariot timepiece in ormolu mounted on a green velvet and ebonised wooden base under a glass dome.  The chariot has a lions head masque holding the traces to the two mythical horned creatures.  The charioteer is a lightly clad youth with laurels in hi hair and carrying vine fruits and reigning in the team. The clock face represents the chariot wheel with ormolu spokes radiating to the annular enamel dial with Roman numerals and signed M. Gentilhomme, Palais Royal.  The hands are bright steel.  The chariot is set on an ormolu base decorated with vine leaves and fruits standing on 4 adjustable feet.  The small 8 day French movement has silk suspension.  Baillie lists Gentilhomme Paris in 1810.  Height with dome 38cms.  width 32cms. Depth  19cms
