CARRIAGE CLOCK
A
fine hour repeat carriage clock by Henri Jacot in
gilt brass Corniche case with oval top prism, carrying
handle and repeat button. The enamel dial has
Roman numerals and blue steel spade hands. The 8
day movement has 13 jewel lever escapement on a silvered
platform and rack strike sounding hours and half hours
on a gong with hour repeating mechanism. The
backplate has the Jacot parrot impressed trademark with
the inital JH and the number 5259 and the inside front
plate is stamped with oval lozenge "H. Jacot, Paris"
with the medal dates 1862, 1865, 1867 & 1878. The
original key has the same 5259 number.
Henri Jacot,
31 rue de Montmorency, Paris won Bronze medal at the
Paris shows in 1855 & 1862 but he died in 1865. He
was succeeded by his nephew of the same name who was
responsible for the production of these superb carriage
clocks with the parrot trade marks which later won
silver and gold medals in 1877 & 1900. This clock
is Circa 1880.
