ROSEWOOD WALL CLOCK
An imposing Regency rosewood wallclock in an octagonal
case with fretted brass inlays on front panels and
moulded edging. There are looking side and trap
doors. 11" painted iron dial with Roman numerals
and blue steel moon hands of unusual design with the
hour moon smaller than the minute. The 8 day Fusee
movement has circular plates. There is a normal
anchor escapement but a very rare feature is the
separate friction drive for the hour and minute hand
allowing them to be set separately. The back of
the dial is designated J Jones. There are numerous
Jones listed but if a London clock the likely maker is
James Jones of Banner Street (1815).
