RARE WALL CLOCK
A remarkable wall timepiece made by Wales and McCulloch,
London The case has a fine 17” turned surround of
polished Cuban mahogany and the 11” dial is also made of
mahogany with applied gilt/brass Roman numerals with
gilt/brass minute markers.The dial has the makers name
WALES & McCULLOCH – 56 CHEAPSIDE depicted in gold
lettering. The gilt/brass hands are fretted and
decorated. The cast brass bezel has a patination
matching the surround. The mahogany box has a side door
and locking trap door on the curved base. There is a
brass ’Patent Applied For’ lozenge on the case. The 8
day single fusee chain driven movement has rectangular
plates with turned pillars and is supported on brackets
attached to the surround with stabilizing screws at the
top. The anchor escapement is controlled by a pendulum
with a double sided brass bob. The innovative
partnership of Wales & McCulloch were working in
Cheapside, London from 1863 – 1881. c.1870
