CLOCK
Dent - Pons -Soldano
An excellent carriage clock in a fine gilded Corniche
case with thick beveled glasses on the front, back and
sides and with oval glass on top for platform
inspection. Height 5”. This clock was made for Dents, 61
Strand,
London by Pons and the beautiful silvered lever
escapement with English scape wheel is one of the
renowned platforms made by Soldano. The movement has
rack strike sounding the hours and half hours on a bell.
The backplate has the Pons 1827 Medaille d’or imprint
and the platform has the J.S.Paris trademark and the J.
Soldano imprint. The enamel dial has Roman numerals and
blue steel moon hands. Dents were famous London
clockmakers and were the makers of Big Ben; they moved
to 61 Strand in 1840. Pons, Honore was very important
French clockmaker who reorganized the French industry
and won awards for his clocks in 1819, 1823, 1827 &
1834.On his best carriage clocks he used the fine
escapements made by J. Soldano of Paris and Geneva.
