A FINE DROP
DIAL
by BROCKBANK AND ATKINS - LONDON
The unusual mahogany case has an 18” octagonal surround
with concave curves between the solstices. The drop has
a flame mahogany front with shaped viewing window in a
brass surround, there are brass line and octagonal disc
inlays. There are well carved side decorations and a
side door; there is a locking trap door in the curved
base. The overall height is
59 cms. The 11” silvered dial has Roman numerals and is
engraved BROCKBANK AND ATKINS – LONDON. There are blue
steel spade hands and a heavy cast brass bezel with
beveled glass. The double fusee movement has turned
pillars and anchor escapement, the rack strike sounds
the hours on a mellow bell. The backplate is also
engraved - BROCKBANK AND ATKINS – LONDON. The
partnership of Brockbank and Atkins worked
in London 1815 – 1835. This clock c.1820.
