MANTEL CLOCK
in Cranberry glass case
A rare Tiffany mantel clock, in a beautiful domed
rectangular cranberry glass case which is mounted on a
polished brass base with rope edging under. There is a
decorative brass urn finial above the glass dome. The
3.5” enamel dial has Roman numerals and a cast brass
decorative surround within the opening brass bezel with
bevelled convex glass. The gothic hands are polished
brass. The French 8 day movement is engraved Tiffany
& Co. New York on the backplate which also has the Japy
Freres Grande Medaille d’Honneur imprint. There is also
an imprint for Lefebvre Paris on the front plate. The
compound pendulum has a brass bob with a decorative
petal and berry design. The movement has a Brocot
escapement and adjustment and a rack strike sounding the
hours and half hours on a bell.
Tiffany was founded in 1837 and became Tiffany & Co.in
1853. They are famous for their iconic designs in
silver, jewellery and glass particularly in the Art
Nouveau and Art Deco periods.Japy Freres were founded in
the 18th century, the imprint on this clock was
introduced in 1888.
